Q*Bird products overview

Q*Bird provides equipment for building a scalable quantum network that allows users to generate and exchange quantum keys with each other.

Because of the properties of quantum physics, users of Q*Bird systems will always know when someone is listening in and trying to intercept the keys.  Even when the eavesdropper is using a supercomputer like a quantum computer. This keeps you and your data fully protected – now, and in the future.

QKD Falqon® Series

The Falqon series consists of two main elements: user nodes and central hubs. Many user nodes can be connected to one central hub.   Each pair of nodes connected to the same hub can generate QKD keys, which remain secret from all other devices in the network.

MQT4000

The MQT4000 is a user node in the Falqon series. It acts as a quantum information transmitter in a Falqon network. The MQT4000 has user interfaces available to extract the generated quantum key from the QKD protocol.

MQX4000

MQX4000

The MQX4000 is the central hub in the Falqon series. It can be used to connect multiple user nodes (MQT4000) in a Falqon network. The MQX4000 acts as a switch station to facilitate the distribution of QKD keys between user nodes.

Each user node is directly connected to the central hub via a pair of optical fibers and can generate quantum keys with any other user node in the network hubs are present only to establish quantum connectivity between the user nodes and form a multipoint-to-multipoint network between user devices.

The secret QKD keys are never present in the central hub and the central hub cannot learn them. This is made possible by the next-generation QKD protocol in our Q*Bird devices.

Quantum Key Distribution (QKD)

Q*Bird is the first to commercially offer equipment to implement a new, secure type of quantum network. Such a network can connect multiple users through a central hub in a cost-effective and scalable way, which can provide a secure data connection between many users be protected against eavesdropping.

Eavesdropping on communication systems by malicious parties can lead to significant financial losses, disruption of critical business operations or physical damage. Our quantum communication infrastructure guarantees a connection protected against eavesdropping and will further enhance the logistics chains of the vital infrastructure on the European continent.

Our technology is based on a special implementation of quantum key distribution (QKD). This type of QKD uses a central hub to connect users who want to exchange secure communications. A user device will need a connection to just the center hub to establish a QKD key with any other user node in the network. This makes our QKD technology very suitable for scaling up to a many user network. Moreover, the user devices do not contain any quantum measurement devices, making the scalability of our QKD network also cost effective.
